"Born in 1984 in Porto, Luis Dourado is a jack of all: illustrator, visual artist, it also operates in the fields of communication, design, photography or music. As a scientist or inventor, through his work explores concepts such as the illusion, control or memory.
Exposure Controls is an invitation to an addition to us both familiar and strange, a kind of parallel reality: imagined and imaginary travels of the artist is to anchor cultural references, media, geographic or mystics who we share. Once diverted and turned, she acquired a new meaning, a new reality.Through different media and tools, whether digital or manual, the artist manipulates and writes a fictional world whose borders are cut and redrawn, the characters anonymous and decontextualized, language and symbols mystified.
Thus, the continents are cut up and reassembled in losing their identity and become purely geometrical reasons. Revised, science fiction territory becomes topographic. Memories, through family photographs that could be those of Mr. and Mrs.-the-world are disturbed by reading their flat colors that add depth to the image in two dimensions and force us to imagine and re -write the original scene. Similarly, photographs of media figures, whose faces were painted with colorful patterns, pictures become pop and lose their original meaning.
Finally, in the world according to Luis Dourado, symbols and signs, from the text or drawing, are marked by an undisguised mysticism. A language without words emerges. But do we really need in this control where it is media, shapes and colors that draw?"
